Today’s French Friday is a little different. Today I am participating in La Bella Figura’s Chic Friends project. As you know from this week’s The Big Reveal, I don’t post pictures of myself, but I decided to participate and then I would “retire” from photos.
I love this group of women who do their best to emulate a European lifestyle. Finding simplicity and moderation in clothing, in food, in day-to-day living. Sharing recipes and supporting each others choices in the kitchen, in the closet, in life.
I had been reading Euro Chic and My French Corner for quite awhile when I stumbled onto Kristi who commented on both of their blogs. From there I found Fiona. I love checking in with them each day to see what outfit they have put together or what yummy meal they are working on.
You don’t have to be French or Italian to live or appreciate a European lifestyle and I love how these women have chosen to mix the good things from both American and European cultures to make their lives more balanced.
So if you have a moment, go check out Chic Friends today on La Bella Figura.
And I would love to know if you find yourself emulating another culture’s lifestyle? Or do you pull from several? Or do you try to epitomize your own?

I recently found your blog and am loving it!
I see nothing wrong with taking what you like from other cultures and making it your own! My husband is European and has family in Greece and the U.K. so we mix traditions from both. We love the idea of having our big meal at lunch and taking a siesta in the afternoons. (When we can.) Also, Greek food is a regular part of our lives.
When I was a foreign exchange student in Wales, I got used to having a nice, hot cup of tea every day (with milk in it!) and have had it ever since. (Although now I use soy milk.)
I teach a lot of Asian students so I’m finding out new customs from them all the time. One that we have taken aboard is the changing shoes thing. We bought a “cubby bench” and put our outside shoes in it as soon as we walk in the door, and change into our inside shoes. It just makes sense to not track outside dirt all over the house!
Keep it up! I am learning about French cooking via Julia Child these days and I have to say: when it comes to enjoying food while having joie de vivre, the French have it all figured out!
@Lyn, I just sent you an email, but welcome and such great things to pull from other countries!
You mean like when Madonna had that funny British accent? Or something a bit more genuine than that?
I always dream of taking on the practice of the siesta…but then I work thru siesta time.
I absolutely adore Latin culture! I really admire how the women exude this innate sexiness. It’s like they don’t even have to try, they are just simply sexy!
When you are living in France for a year… you start to forget which is your culture. That is the problem and the glory of it.
