So you’ve read my review of Ordinary World and interview of its author Elisa Lorello. And you read Elisa’s fabulous guest-post. And now you are hooked…
Fear not, I always take care of you don’t I?
I am such a big fan of Ordinary World, my only complaint was that I didn’t realize it was a sequel to Faking It. I feel like I missed out by not reading it, something I am definitely going to remedy! But I don’t want the same thing to happen to YOU!
So I am giving away the two books to one lucky reader. Simply leave a comment below describing something that you either collect now or collected in the past and how you started collecting that item.
I will choose a winner using Random.org. You have until Sunday, February 7th, midnight P.S.T to leave a comment.
Good luck!

I am a minimalist so I like to keep things streamlined, but I do collect vintage Mexican Taxco sterling silver jewelry. It started when my mother’s best friend died and my mother gave me her friend’s Taxco Opal bracelet. Then I received a necklace as a gift from my mother and then another necklace from her for my 40th birthday. Jewelry is something small enough to please my minimalist sensibility. I plan on adding to my collection bit by bit over the years.
I collect bunnies. I don’t know how I got started. I have a collection of bunny themed cards I’ve collected over the years and framed.. not the cartoon type but more artistic renderings. And, a number of stuffed ones… my favorite rabbit is a terra cotta statue of a bunny sitting… beloved and worn and cracked!
I am not a big collector of things – I mainly collect photos of my family and friends, but I do have some special vintage glass and silver creamers from antique stores, that I adore. In my younger days I used to collect old trunks, as I had one that had been my grandmothers and I went from there. I have since passed it on to my sister and I think my niece is in possession of it now.
These books sound fascinating!! Have a beautiful day, Andi!
I have collected Christmas decorations. One of the most unusual is an angel made out of a bassoon reed from a friend in my high school band. When my kids were little, we had a tree trimming party and many people added decorations to our collection. We also pick up decorations on trips. As a family, we play “I Spy” and try to guess a certain Christmas decoration. Our Christmas tree is cornucopia of memories of places and people.
I would love to read the books.
I loved Elisa’s article, so I know I will love her books. I kow I will read them (the old fashion way) wether I win them here or not.
I collect many things, like Elisa I collect pretty packaging-boxes, bags, tins- for Christmas is a great time to score pretty tin boxes. I have scaled it down but I still keep the prettiest bags, it is too hard to part with those. I also collect antique cameras, and watches. I have over fifty watches, I get at least two twice a year, as my friends and family know my love for big manly pieces and give them to me for my birthday or special ocassions.
I really loved the interview with Elisa. Like I posted in the previous post, I used to collect many things, such as, Beanie Babies, Willow figurines, Dvds, perfumes, and my son and husband had collected over 1000 hot wheels (Still in mint condition). Unfortunately we lost everything we owned in a house fire. I say unfortunately, but in reality a blessing came out of it. Because I learned that people can truly be loving and caring, and I also learned not to attach myself to things that can be destroyed in a a moments notice. I now try to put my energy into caring for others.
These collections are great… I wanna start one of each!
I now collect different colored glassware, vases, bowls, etc. I have shelves where they’re all displayed. Apparently, I’ve passed the “collecting” gene on to my son.
Anything with elephants! I fell in love with them on my trip to South Africa. I had always thought they were beautiful, but seeing them in the wild in person was enough to send me fascination into an obsession.
@Cheryl – thanks for sharing, I echo Elisa’s words that I hope things are better for you and your family post-fire. I totally get that a tragic event like that can really put things into perspective.
