While traveling to Acapulco to catch our Panama Canal cruise we transferred through the Mexico City airport. The airport is nice although the signage was a bit confusing for my husband and I in finding our terminal. Considering we are pretty savvy travelers, we probably aren’t the only ones who have run into this.
The immigration line was long, but ran smoothly. In fact there were even helpers who circulated the lines and checked forms to make sure everything was filled out correctly before getting to the immigration officer, I thought this was an excellent idea! Once through immigration, the awkward search for our terminal and then security, we arrived at our gate in time for me to grab a quick drink before we boarded again.
While feeding my thirst I observed the entrance to the terminal and was struck by the scene around me. It is a busy terminal, lots of people in transit mode. And amongst the crowd of people trying to figure out where they are going, if they are headed in the right direction, where the restrooms are, where food is, etc., there is an army of information staff on two wheels. That’s right the airport has an entire staff of wheel-chaired bound employees dedicated to helping others.
It warmed my heart. These people are employed as valuable staff who provide a real service, not a disabled person, a handicapped person, a second class citizen, but a full-bodied, customer-oriented star.
How cool would that be to see that in the U.S.?

Wow — that’s really, really nice.
And train stations… *sigh*
p/s:
Andi, I love airports! Modern ones, trashy ones, scary ones, all of them
What a FANTASTIC idea! Love it!! As someone who is horrifically “directionally challenged,” I would GREATLY appreciate this service. Sounds like a “win-win” to me!
i worked at an airport. they live to hear stuff like this. i love how you ended this post.
Success! You showed up in my feed again! At long last!!
I have always loved the people-watching aspect of travelling… I usually end up seeing something unexpected that warms the heart. It sounds like you hit the jackpot!
I agree with you – I think something like that would be fantastic here in the States! There are too many airport staffers who are either in a hurry to get where they’re going, or think that a person who is lost shouldn’t be in the airport alone.. lol…
I hope you had (or are having) a great cruise!
Happy ICLW!
That is so great.
Love that! Why is this country so backwards? What a brilliant idea. Fantastic picture…
I see a lot of people with special needs employed at Wal-mart. Mostly as greeters and people to tell you to have a nice day. It’s nice to be greeted and said good-bye to in this hurried nation.
