Andi, I share your love of France and most things French. I've lived in London for nearly 15 years, so my access to France is a lot better than when I was in America. We take 1 or 2 trips over the Channel every year for a weekend or a 2-week summer vacation in a farm cottage. My favorites are Paris and the Ile de Re, in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of France.

Fittingly, my favourite piece of furniture is a French-style love seat with carved legs and a buttoned back. It was my grandmother's and it came to me when she moved into a new apartment. I was 15. I curled up in it every day to read my books. It came with me across the country when I moved, and to London. Unfortunately it has had bad treatment. A friend who sublet my house let his cat pick the wool upholstery apart. Then, my son decided to use it as a trampoline to bounce around the room from seat to seat. The bottom is now touching the floor. It's covered with a big throw. It has seen better days but I still love it.

We didn't have a favorite piece of furniture but me and my sisters did fight over a "favorite spoon", the cherry in the fruit cocktail and the meatballs in canned spaghetti and meatballs.

Yes! The radiator in our living room. It sat under a window looking up our street and it had a smooth (metal) cover over it. Must have been about a foot wide, which was plenty of room for my tush at the time. It's where I sat and read all the time. I'd move around - sitting on it to warm my bum and legs, then when I'd get to hot, I'd sit on the windowsill and warm my feet on the radiator. No one else ever sat there - it was mine, all mine.

That chair is perfect.

I remember the built in bench under the large window in the living room where I grew up. It was made of leather and cracked in some parts. It was good people watching.
