I will have more posts on the 2010 CES show, but as I had a 30 minute break I decided to write some highlights. So here are 5 things that I learned at CES.
[1] Be careful what you put out into the Universe. I always joke and say that I am “allergic” to exercise, that I break out in hives. Well, I am actually breaking out in hives from all the walking and hustling I am doing! I would show you pictures, but hey, just trust me. I am going to STOP saying that – forever!
[2] Bloggers have gotten a bum rap. I think all the press that craps all over the blogging conventions for the swag hag commentary need to come to CES. People will take anything if it is free, and most times that is all they are interested in! I have witnessed people diving in and out of booths just grabbing away.
Also as I am out and about on the floor tweeting for my employer, people are stopping me to ask (a) what are we giving away in my company’s booth; (b) do I have anything I am giving away, and (c) are we giving away the t-shirt I am wearing? Yikes!
[3] Booth babes make for interesting entertainment. Enough said. (For now)
[4] I can surprise myself. I don’t think of myself as a gadget geek, but I am. I really enjoyed seeing all the phone and laptop accessories, new TV’s and e-readers. I am thinking about an e-reader, the selection at CES was overwhelming…but in my house we are waiting to see what Apple will do….
[5] My generation of trekkies are getting old. Levar Burton and Brent Spiner have been every where during the show. I, being a Next Generation fan, tried to catch up with them at several events and finally caught them while they were doing a live radio show on the CES floor. When I actually caught a glimpse of them, I was surprised to see how “old” they were looking (but still great!). I guess it is my generation’s turn to see our Star Trek heroes age!
[Bonus 1] The French are still very interested in technology. The predominant second language I heard everywhere was French, maybe my ears are just more tuned to it naturally, but there were a TON of people from France. This is good news, as the French have always excelled in technology and I am happy to see the trend will continue.
[Bonus 2] I still geek out on Chris Brogan whenever I see him – I love that man! I ran into him in the Griffin booth and snapped this photo. How does he manage to be everywhere all the time, meet a million people and still be such a lovely person? He has honey running through his veins instead of blood
I will have more specific CES posts including my favorite booths and products soon!

All trade show’s are like that, you know. Glad you’re finding the bright side!
Aw, I’m very jealous of the Brent and Levar sighting! I love me some Next Generation.
So all in all, does that mean you had a good time?
I’m soo jealous. I wanted to go so bad this year. I had several invites in the past two weeks. I made a money commitment to Blissdom though. I’m going to CES next year, no matter what! I can’t wait for more posts!
I’ve been following some of the CES tweets – I’d love to go to see all of the new technology! I had to laugh at #3. =)
I am so not tech savvy. “Allergic”, maybe?
You have to get an e-reader. I bought one on a whim at a Sony Friends and Family sale and it’s completely changed my reading dynamic. You’ll love it.
Just got home from CES as well and I (literally) feel your pain and exhaustion. I only just barely got my post up. Funny you should mention the swag. I walked the show floor with @techmama and neither of us left the show with much more than press bags and the usual sticker/pen/flash drive haul. I “scored” a back up battery pack from a PR firm that I have known for a while, when my iphone died and my live coverage was waning. It was mercy swag and boy was I grateful! But that’s it. Maybe we didn’t try hard enough, or maybe because it wasn’t our objective. Regardless I felt the sting of “Blogger Swag Hag” branding at many booths.
I’m so glad I went. It was like a spaceship tour of the future. Felt like I gorged on blue cotton candy, and breathed altered air. The highs, the sugar lows, the disorientation… but a good experience overall and many stories to come from it.
Looking forward to hearing more about this. I’m going to a mini-boot camp in March. Hope to one day go to the big time.
Oh ok …I follow Chris Brogan on Twitter and he tweeted tons of times this afternoon (probably just got home and finally has some time!) ….so much so that I was wondering if I really wanted to follow him? ….I guess I do! He sounds like a peach.
Oooh jealous! I really hope to make it to CES someday. I was in a social media conference in Tahoe that same weekend actually!
