Since I was out of town last Saturday and unable to really be online to read and tell you about my six favorite posts of the prior week, I am doing a double edition this week! Yesterday was my off Friday, so I started reading blog posts in my reader at 6:00 a.m. (still have some lingering jet lag) and by 3:00 p.m. I was done! Whew you guys were busy while I was away!
And let me tell you, even with picking twelve instead of my normal six it was TOUGH to narrow it down! But I did, so here goes:
[1] Carrie over at CarrotSpeak wrote a beautiful post on the importance of her blog in her life. It struck a cord with me and her words ran true to exactly how I feel about my own blog and the friends I have made.
[2] Cathi over at Everyday Adventures of a Curious Gal shared a poem she wrote several years ago, an ode to her coffee maker which I totally adored. I have been known to have very deep feelings for my own coffee maker and thought she expressed hers quite eloquently!
[3] Spudballoo over at Chez Spud wrote an amusing post about the Universe and the messages it sends, or as she labeled it, “Omens, Portents, Signs et al.” I am a bigger believer in intuition and listening to the Universe, so I had to share.
[4] Karen over at A Peek at Karen’s World shared her dismay over the state of the “The News.” I have to say I am glad I was in Paris when the Tiger Woods news broke, I missed it all, and since I don’t watch TV and I have been tuned out, no big loss. But the idea behind what Karen says – the fact that there is “real” news going on out there in the world while the TV networks suck up the airways with garbage never ceases to amaze me!
[5] Kristin over at Halfway to Normal wrote a post about her daughter’s Survivalist Kit for Life which is supremely well written and resonated with me. This blog was introduced to me by Jen of JenX67 and I usually just lurk there, but I felt the need to comment and share this post. I think as we go through life our survival kit changes. We need to make sure that it’s contents correspond with the reality of our environment.
Literally speaking, my purse, or these days, my briefcase goes through a cleansing every other month or so; and as it’s weight increases and I do the clean-out, I am always amused at what I find in there. Inevitably, after I clean it out, I fill it up again as I move through my days with things I need, or might need “just in case”. It is interesting to reflect back on this.
[6] And speaking of Jen of JenX67, I am cheating here by adding two of her posts form the last week that I loved. The first one, titled, “Generation X has a new name and its not pretty” is a great post in response to an article that quoted Generation X as “wards of China.” I love the fact that Jen wants to don a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle outfit and kick the author of that article’s butt! The comments for the post are great too, so make sure not to miss those.
The second post gave me such a massive trip down memory lane that I had to include it! Jen gathered a list of Christmas presents for tweens based on products from my childhood. I seriously had not thought about Holly Hobbie in years and I used to have a ton of stuff with her plastered all over it. And I wore Love’s Baby Soft for YEARS! Go check it out and see if there is anything that brings back any of your favorite memories!
[7] How could I not include a post about one of my best buds written by another best bud? To be fair that is not the only qualification. Julie’s Daily Norm blog is fascinating and she wrote a post interviewing my pal, Alisa Bowman of Project Happily Ever After that was awesome! Julie also writes at Writing Roads and I could literally include every one of her posts every week, she had some really good ones this past week, but I’d thought you might enjoy “I‘m Hungry.” Not to be outdone, Alisa is no quack at this blogging game either and was on a roll this week writing a 3-part series on surviving the holidays, my favorite was Part 3. OK – busted, I know I like quadruple cheated here, but I could not resist!
[8] Always one for humor, Anne Fitten of Edgy Mama outdid herself this week with a post about her conference experience and the topic of opposum prepping. It will certainly make you wonder!
[9] New friend Lindsey over at Lost in Cheeseland wrote a post musing about the growing girth of French people. Blame the Americanization of food over there (I do!). Having just returned from Paris and on each trip witnessing the ever increasing amount of fast and processed foods that the French our consuming, I think she is right on the money!
Now a few posts on the lighter side….
[10] Garance Dore had a beautiful photo and note reminding me how gorgeous the Kelly bag is. Ever see the movie Le Divorce? It features prominently in the movie, and it is such a beautiful sac, especially if it is vintage and passed down to you from your French mother or grandmother.
[11] I got total food envy from Gourmet Chick’s post on “Bacon, Maple and Pecan Cupcakes.” Not something I would eat on a regular basis but I think I can hang with trying that cupcake out!
[12] Missy got my attention on Facebook with this post from Fabulously Broke in the City. FB shares a Twilight comic that is hilarious. Spoiler alert – if you have not read the whole Twilight series and intend to, don’t read this post!
P.S. This doesn’t count as a post, but it is going around, particularly in France and I had to share:
P.P.S. Happy blogoversary Missy!
P.P.P.S. Ava, sorry to see that you are leaving us for an extended period, I will miss you!
That’s it for this week’s double edition, as always I would love to hear if you have any posts that you particularly liked.
