Corrie and I found each other through SITS. She writes a blog called My Pickle Talks Autism. I like reading the stories about her days with her children. I know that autism is a serious matter, but I find the stories about her son so lighthearted. Sort of “out of the mouth of babes” kind of stuff.
In a recent post about homework battles Corrie’s son, Jonathan, taught me a neat trick for remembering stuff. Taking a mental picture. I know my husband is always telling me that he remembers stuff more if he has a mental picture of it. But I never really actually thought about doing that I until I read Corrie’s post!
I am also a proud recipient of Jonathan and Corrie’s Circle of Friends award which I received recently!
You never know where good advice is going to come from! And with that, I introduce this lovely post written by Corrie in which she describes why she has a special place in her heart for Paris.
======
I’m so glad that Andi has given me an opportunity to talk about a city that I love, from a distance!
My first time to Paris was in high school. I went there with a group of teens after I graduated from high school. I knew a few words in French, just enough to butcher the language. One waiter asked me not to talk to him in French, but English.
I don’t really remember my first trip to Paris other than being at the top of the Eiffel Tower and longing for the day I’d be up there with the love of my life.
Eighteen years later, my fiancée planned a honeymoon to Paris and Rome. He’d never been to Paris, but knew I wanted to go there with him. I’d never been to Rome, but he wanted to share this city with the love of his life.
We arrived in Paris, checked into our hotel and took a nap, since we traveled all night long. We woke up in the early evening and decided to go see the Eiffel Tower first. It was all I imagined it would be and more. After we went to the top, my husband decided that we needed to eat at the fancy restaurant in the tower. By this time it was dark. We had the most fantastic meal, French cuisine, French bread, cheeses, wine and French onion soup. And we were looking out over the City of Lights our third night of marriage.
We were there in August, so I loved opening the hotel room to the balcony and listening to the city noises during the night. (We live in the country, so we hear crickets.). I loved riding the Metro, walking the city streets, the beautiful architecture, the statues, the gorgeous gardens everywhere.
My husband and I love the movie “Casablanca” and I’ve decorated my formal sitting room with black and white photos from the movie. The formal dining room next to it has black and white photos of Paris and a couple colored ones from our honeymoon.
The very first pictures you see walking into our house is our wedding portrait and underneath pictures of my husband and I in Paris. The main floor bathroom has artwork from Paris. And one day, I would like to stencil on one of the walls a line from the movie. “We’ll always have Paris,” that Ricky says to Ilsa.
Can’t wait to go back one day with my hubby. Until then, my house is a constant reminder that “we’ll always have Paris.”

Also, thanks for the lovely write up! I hope you are enjoying your time off!
Corrie, you are one classy lady! Never been to Paris, but I plan on getting there someday, while I’m still alive and kicking!
Oh, Corrie – you and me both. I’ve only been to Paris once and it was with my kiddos. I dream to be there one day very soon with my hubby. Yes, my friend, we’ll always have Paris.
p.s. I also have Paris mementos around my home. People know about my obsession and have been kind to give me related gifts.
What a lovely story!
I just met Corrie when she did a guest post at another bloggy friends and just feel in love with her wonderful way taking one day at a time.
Beautiful post Corrie, I just loved reading about it and pretending I was right there with you. I think it would be beautiful to stencil that in the house! Just gorgeous my dear!
I went to Paris ten years ago and loved it too! It’s my favorite city – everything I imagined it to be. Here’s to going back someday!
What a beautiful story! I’ve been to Paris by myself, but someday I’d love to go with someone I care about. I love that your house reflects a place that means so much to both of you.
