Saturday Six – First Edition

by Andi on November 7, 2009

Number 6Some of my bloggy friends do various variations of weekly posts that highlight their favorite reads of the week.  I really like it and have decided to try out my own version.

I am a big fan of alliteration so I choose Saturday Six.  I know.  I am lame, but you love me anyway!  This allows me a chance to take a writing break while highlighting posts that I really enjoyed this week.

So here goes:

  1. I have talked about Jen of JenX67 many, many times.  She is one of my daily must-reads and her writing is amazing.  Not only do her posts often have a way of shining light into the deep dark corners of my head where there are many lost memories when she writes about Generation X, but she is also a delightful person who writes about her local community.  She is political, but not.  She is religious, but not.  She is talented and thought provoking.   She wrote an inspiring post this week called, “one of the most effective prayers anyone will ever pray” which I found to be brilliant.  I hope you like it too.
  2. Another blogger I read on a daily basis who is also a phenomenally talented writer is Julie of Writing Roads.  I always feel like I leave her posts a better person, that she has imparted some life lesson onto me.  I have had the luck to meet her in person and now call her friend, but even before I met her I was inspired by her writing.  Julie recently launched a new blog called The Daily Norm where she interviews out-of-the-ordinary people about their ordinary lives.  She has had some fantastic interviewees so far and I think this is a brilliant concept.  I loved this week’s interview with John Grogan, author of Marley and Me. He has a new book coming out and took time out from his book tour to answer a few questions for Julie. I really liked it, I hope you do too!
  3. Susan of Transient Travels inspired the creation of Music Memory Mondays, and she may have done it again with her post this week on movie memories.  Just kidding, I am not going to start Movie Memory Mondays…although, I could.  When I was commenting on her post all these movie memories were flashing all around me.  Her post is called Movies that move me to travel – go check it out and see if you have any movie memories of your own.
  4. This *might* be cheating.  This week, new blogging buddy, Sassy Chica re-posted a post from one of her bloggy friends that was fantastic!  Sassy is one spunky lady who is all about positive self esteem, well that and a good dash of alcohol, just kidding. No I’m not.  Love her, and love this post she had this week called “What a girl wants.”
  5. My pal Alisa over at Project Happily Ever After is hilarious.  She comes up with these great lists of random thoughts that will just crack you up.  Her blog talks about marriage and sex and being in a couple, all with a sense of humor, which face it, you have to have when dealing with your spouse or significant other, or you will go insane.  This week she wrote a post called 17 Deep Thoughts – I dare you not to laugh.
  6. Lastly, Adam of Secret Sushi got to live one of my dreams this week.  There is a new high rise luxury living complex in San Francisco right by the Bay Bridge.  My husband and I want to go up to the highest floor possible and fantasize what it would be like to live there.  Adam got to the 37th floor and took awesome photos, which were particularly rare due to the bridge closing.  Have a look and see if you wouldn’t mind that view!

Well I hoped you like the first edition of Saturday Six – got a favorite post you read somewhere this week?  Please share!

I love this feature!!! I have so limited time – like all of us -it’s great to be able to discover the treasures amidst all the junk that’s out there. And, of course, thank you for your generosity. You are such a dear!!!! When I finally meet you – and we will meet up at one of these conferences once my husband is out of school and the littlest is out of diapers – I’m buying you dinner!!!!

I LOVE the look of Writing Roads. I can’t wait to check all these out, and I will.

And, Sassy Chica – oh my. All those lips. hahaha!

Wow. I checked out 37th floor. How wild to think that this is where you live – in such an impressive city. And, here I am in Oklahoma – so faraway – and yet, we’ve connected. It’s such a blessing – the internet, your blog. I’m so glad I was born in 1967 so I could experience all this.

I must have been living under a big fat rock when you first posted this. So flattered that you promo-ed and linked to me. And such a great idea to do link ups once a week!
