Saturday Six #3

by Andi on November 21, 2009

Saturday-Six-3Welcome back to the 3rd edition of Saturday Six, the place where I highlight six posts that I especially enjoyed this past week.  If you missed Week #1 or Week #2 you can go back and check them out.  Each week it is really hard to pick just six, but here are my choices for this week:

[1] Blogging buddy, Clarabela of Just Chick Flicks has been writing a wonderful serious on women in film from the classics.  As much as a movie fan as I am, I have realized through Clarabela’s series that there are a lot of classics that I have missed out on seeing.  This week she wrote about another film that I have yet to see, All About Eve and I can’t wait to get it on Netflix.  She has written several posts in this series, go check them out.  Also today she blogged about “Why are women so fascinated by vampires” in which I give my two cents on the topic as well.

[2] A few weeks ago on Bloggers’ daily Blogs of Note, I stumbled upon a fascinating blog called Letters of Note. The author, Shaun Usher, is creating an archive of old letters that have been found or sent to him.  These letters are so intriguing and it is a unique view into historical events, I am addicted to this site.  I am also a big fan of WWII history, so when I came a across one of the letters from this week called Slaughterhouse Five, I had to share.  It is a letter from an American soldier who was held in a camp during the war.  It details some of what he went through, its unbelievable that we still have these letters to detail events like this.

[3] I love Google Alerts! With one of my alerts on all things French I found another author to try out.  Suzanne De Cornelia has a novel partially based in Paris that has peaked my interest. I am putting it on the wishlist to pick up once I have gotten through my current reads. She wrote about the Secret of French Women’s Appeal, a topic close to my heart!

[4] I think Shelley of That Girl Blogs and I might have been separated at birth.  Her thoughts on Christmas continue to have me rolling on the floor!  Here’s her latest complaint on Christmas Music, “Do you hear what I hear?“  I am kind of the Grinch of my family because the over-commercialization of many holidays, including Christmas drives me insane!

[5] One of my high school classmates who lives in the Seattle area blogs about sustainability in conjunction with his business. He had a very special post this past week about an evening with Isabella Rossellini, I particularly love the photo, she looks so warm and affable!

[6] Lastly, I could not have a Saturday Six this week that did not mention New Moon, and of course there were plenty to choose from! But I really liked the very honest assessment made over at Elements of Style.  It wasn’t giddy or gushy, it was just “tell it like it is” which I thoroughly appreciate.

Thanks for playing along!  Got any posts you want to share from the last week?  Please do!

Hi, Andi! So happy to find your blog and grateful for your comment. I was just thinking that my Google Reader was looking a little tired– I’m looking forward to checking out all six posts at your recommendation. What a fun Saturday theme. I hope all’s well and that you!

I’m doing IComWeLeave too. Didn’t wind up here from that but was fun to see you are doing it too.

One of the blogs you listed here has a name a lot like my own personal blog, That Grrl. I had to have a look.

First of all, thanks for contributing to my post about vampires. You are the best blogging buddy a girl ever had.

I enjoyed this week’s Saturday Six. I found a few new sites that I enjoyed reading.
