Charlotte airport rocks!

charlotte-airport-rocks….literally!

It’s not my intention to review every airport I go to, but some of them certainly do warrant it.

Last week when I flew to North Carolina, I had four hours to kill in the Charlotte airport.  And instead of it being a total drag, the four hours flew by. Namely because the airport is great! Coming off a red-eye, I was tired, so the first thing I did was look for a Starbucks, and there was a ton. Once I got my chai tea, I looked around to where I could have a seat and enjoy my beverage, and when I really looked around (as opposed trying to just find a Starbucks) I realized there were rocking chairs everywhere! I took my tea and sat down and people watch, it was nice.

After a while I pulled out my laptop to purchase wireless. I wanted to read blog posts and type up another, as I had already had quite a little adventure. When I tried to access the web, lo and behold – it was FREE. Yes, free. In all the airports I had been in, the only other one that I had experienced this in was Portland. It is so great to provide travels with free internet access, and I wish more airports would do it. (Although on my way back out of Asheville airport – they had it too!)

The airport is bright and clean with a lot of open architecture in the main hub between terminals. The people were warm and friendly. And I found something else…bathroom attendants! I have seen this a lot in Europe at train stations, restaurants, hotels, etc, but I had never seen it in a U.S. airport.  The attendant in the bathroom I visited was a young girl in her 20’s and the bathroom was super clean, she monitored excessively. Also provided in the bathroom was a vanity table with things you might need to freshen up.  It is a great idea, and I was pleased to see it.

If you ever have a possibility of flying to or passing through the Charlotte, North Carolina airport, don’t be in too much of a hurry to enjoy some of the little pleasures that this facility has to offer!  It is an excellent example of Southern hospitality!

That sounds like an awesome airport! Glad you had time to enjoy it….One of my fave things is people watching at airports, so I always arrive early just to have time to do that….Have a great day!

Living in the south I frequently fly through Charlotte.. it is indeed a wonderful airport, if I’m not mistaken there is also a ‘by the minute’ massage business as well!
Don’t you love the suspended large model airplanes.. and the live piano. Later in the day you can get a drink from one of the bars and go sit in a rocking chair..that’s as close to airport heaven as it gets.
