SPLAT

by Andi on August 3, 2009

I think I am going to start a new club. It might exist, I did not search for it, but I am claiming it all the same. I am calling it S.P.L.A.T. – Sane Professional Ladies who Adore Twilight. I am not sure if it was recent publicity at Comic-Con that caused all this mention of Twilight again, or just something in the air, but it is in my air right now.

Last weekend I was feeling under the weather, so I laid in bed and decided to watch Twilight. I watched it again on Sunday. Then I decided to re-read the books, so to make myself feel better, I bought them in French (waiting patiently (not) for them). I have been digesting this all week, trying to pin down why I like the books so much (movie is ok) and why I feel ashamed about it.

Then I read two articles by rationale, sane women liking Twilight, one was from a major newspaper (I can’t find the damn link!) and then a blog post from my blogging buddy Julie at Writing Roads. She wrote a great post and mentioned another post from another sane fan, Erin Gates at Elements of Style.

This has led me to believe that SPLAT is necessary! I feel I must call myself out and specify that I am sane and a professional. I say that because I have friends that are Twitter fanatics and totally over-the-top – they don’t read this blog, so I don’t fear reprisal! This is not me. I am dignified, restrained, I am not sleeping in a Team Edward shirt. I am simply a SPLAT…

And no, I am not confessing to the following activities from last week:

- Watched the movie twice
- Read the Stephanie Meyer website cover-to-cover
- Downloaded the soundtrack
- Completed Google searches looking for other SPLATs to alleviate my feelings
- Downloaded the movie to my iPhone

Forgive me!

I'm in. Hook. Line. Sinker. Just started rereading the series and watched the movie for the second time last night. It doesn't even compare to the book, but it still scratches the itch.

The love story is just too potent. The catharsis is as necessary as water.

Can I be the SPLAT vice-president? The high rank will help me feel even better about myself…xox

If the guys can have "Hair Club for Men" we can have this. Do you have room for one more?

The more the merrier, makes us look more sane. I actually have a friend working on a badge….

I almost read Twilight a few months ago for a book group but was put off because the story description didn't really do anything for me.

But ever since I have heard nothing but rave reviews about the series and now having read your post and Julie's I am so intrigued I'm going to have to make it my top purchase this week.

Yours

I love this club !!
I'm a Twilight addict but I'm sane. Yes. I don't sleep with any Twilight product, I definitely won't buy a Twilight doll ( o_o ) and I don't scream and cry while watching New Moon Trailer.
But I like it sooo much. *-*

Forgive my late commenting! I'm in on this club, as are a few ladies at work.

What a great club. Whenever I tell people I’m a Twilight fan, I always follow up with, “And I don’t even like vampires or anything.”
