I love that song…and how dumb…I did not know Journey was from San Francisco, and how coincidental that it was in 1987 that I moved to the Bay Area. Great memory!

Ahh, those musical memories….thanks for the memory jog for the song that reminds me most of home. I grew up in Milwaukee, and I would say that the ONE song that really brings me back is Elvin Bishop's "Fooled Around and Fell in Love". Every time I hear it I'm back in High School, trying to get up the nerve to ask a pretty girl to dance.

Did I ever get up that nerve? Rarely.

But it's still a great memory.

I was born in L.A. – grew up across the South Central Plains. My dad was a sailor-turned-preacher. We moved a lot, too. I went to high school in rural Kansas, so John Cougar's Smalltown and Jack and Diane remind me of that place. But, Kansas isn't home. HOme is wherever all my mom's stuff is. And, songs that make me think of her – anything from the Sound of Music.

Great post, Andi. I love the line about avocados. I spent many summers visiting family in California , too.
