Great blog tool and book giveaway

by Andi on June 15, 2009

One of the blogs I follow, Mighty Girl, she is a local bay Area gal who has been lucky enough to work with some really great people in the web world. People such as Jeffrey Veen and Jesse James Garrett who I remember seeing for the first time at a huge tradeshow called Web2000 in, you guessed it, 2000. I was very admirative of them and read their books and insights and followed them at companies such as New Riders and Adaptive Path. They are pretty cool dudes. At least in my world…

Maggie is also the author of a really great book called No One Cares What You Had for Lunch: 100 Ideas for Your Blog. It’s funny I noticed after I bought the book that her publisher (which Jeffrey Veen helped her get) is none other than Peachpit Press. My neighbor happens to be a VP there. I am thinking I should have just hit her up for copies of the book!

But since I don’t roll like that I bought and read a copy right before I went on vacation and have an extra one to give to you!

I can’t say I would use everything in there, but there were definitely some great post ideas. So the next time you have writer’s block you can pull this baby out and get an idea toute suite!

So, to be eligible to win, leave a comment telling me the best way you come up with blog ideas, or a favorite idea that you have heard. You have until Friday, June 19th at 11:00 p.m. PST. I will select a winner using Random.org on Saturday, June 20th.

Hmm…the best way I come up with blog ideas…I think I am inspired most by what others post. Sometimes peoples post hits me a certain way and reminds me of something I have been through and makes me want to share a similar thought or story.

I have this book and love it although I have read very little of it. My best way to come up with blog ideas is to go to a public place and just listen to conversations and observe what's happening around me. Sometimes the posts just come to me with very little effort (which is always nice).

My surefire way of getting post ideas is from my photography. I don't necessarily write about what the photograph's subject is, but it's enough to jumpstart a theme or a thought to get me going.

Sometimes I wonder if I could write a post without a picture anymore!

I find cruising other posts and looking through old photos I've taken usually perk up a dry spell!

Usually when I have Bloggers Block, I take that as a sign that I have to get out and do something. Usually something so wacky happens to me that I can't wait to get back and write about it.

I am constantly inspired by traveling. While I'm traveling I always come up with a hundred ideas. :)

I come up with a lot of my ideas when I shower (I know,… weird…) and when I am in the car.

Some of my best ideas come from real life situations I find myself in. I'm dating and the stories of men I've met or ones I've tried not to meet can be great story material.

Most of my posts come from things that happen in my daily life. Many times, thinking about how I can turn a situation into a post saves me from screaming or crying! (Three boys will do that to you.) I'd love to read this book because, you know, SOMEDAY my kids may not give me so much material. Thanks, Andi!

I gather intel from what seems to be popular (or unpopular) for the week from my Google Reader. Other people's blogs are great for ideas.

The best way I get ideas is by reading other people blogs. I also get ideas from my friends and from talking to people and getting an idea from that.

When I'm not writing about the progress I'm making on my novel (which is more often than not), my posts are inspired by the things I notice, hear, do, etc. Often something I see on my way to work sparks an idea and inspires me!

I just spend time exploring other blogs to get ideas.

I am totally new to blogging and am having a hard time figuring out which direction I want to take. I just patrol other blogs and see what people are doing.

Would love to read this book! Being fairly new to blogging,I have a hard time deciding what I should post about. I'm learning though and blog stalking certainly helps :)
