It’s like I have a crystal ball! Like I knew what Darren was going to assign to us today. Today’s exercise had to do with linking to older posts. Because I am an internet marketing professional by day, this is something that is sort of second nature to me, and sort of a pet peeve I have of other bloggers. As I mentioned on Day 3 Item 4 (see! I am doing my home work right now!) new readers come to blogs all the time, so if you are mentioning something historical, link up the older post, otherwise, new readers will get lost!
Darren talk about widgets (in WordPress) that automatically add “you might also like” posts based on the content of your current post, but I just don’t like automated stuff, it doesn’t feel personal. I like the idea of listing other similar posts, but I feel that I should take the time to do it to make sure the selections make sense and really do match up.
One thing I always try to do as well is open up the new post, or site that I am directing someone to in a new window so that the reader can refer back and forth easily. This is accomplished by adding target=”_blank” right after the url and right before the ending > in the HTML. [if you need help email me and I will send you a code snippet].
Just a little extra tip when linking.

Great tip…I like to past posts all the time, but doing it in another window is an even better idea. Thanks!
