I am not a mommy-blogger, I don’t have children, don’t have plans to have children. But I am a long-distance savvy auntie, so when I got the opportunity to receive an advanced copy of The Teashop Girls, I jumped on it. I love books and I try to pass on to my nieces that same adoration. I am not the auntie that gives toys, but rather over the years I have tried to give a wide spectrum of books.
As my husband is French, I have supplied books about French culture or French characters. I have one niece who loves horses, so I find horse-themed books for her. But now that they are getting older and developing unique individualized tastes, I worry about which selections to make. For my older niece, The Teashop Girls is a real gem.
I actually read the book myself and thoroughly enjoyed it! It is the adorable story of Annie Green, granddaughter of Louisa, the small town owner of a little teashop called the Steeping Leaf. Annie has two best friends Zoe and Genna who make up the remainder of The Teashop Girls.
The story subtly weaves in modern themes such as the world domination of major food franchises, cell phones and instant messaging as well as the tried and true classics of friendships, first crushes and annoying siblings.
A bonus of the book is tea history and recipes that are incorporated into the book like an additional character. There are also hidden nuggets from a Teashop Girls scrapbook, which include things like health and beauty tips using tea – some I am definitely going t try out!
Overall, I enjoyed the story immensely and look forward to passing the book to my niece. The book formula works so well, with such diverse characters, that I can totally envision a whole Teashop Girls series – the girls are just going to be starting high school – the possibilities are countless!
And because the author Laura Schaeffer is dialed into social media, she has a cool little website with lots of fun info, tips and treats located at: http://teashopgirls.com check it out, there is something for everyone.

I am reading an advanced copy with my 8 year old daughter right now, ans she loves it. You are a cool Aunt. I wish my girls’ Aunts would give them more books and less obnoxious toys!
